Alexander Park Executive is meeting this week to discuss how we will be moving forward with baseball this year. An email will be sent later this weekend discussing how that may look.

May 26th Update:

Hello Alexander Park Families,

We are still in a bit of a waiting game, obviously nothing is going to happen until at least June 2nd  with the current lockdown, and then it will depend on the provincial government and the local public health as to what they will allow.  We’re hoping we can at least get part of the season in.  Best case scenario that we see would be a mid to late June start.

We’ll send a mass email out once we have a better idea.

Thanks for your patience,

Alexander Park Executive

Online Registration for 2021 season is now available

Sign up today!!

Dear Alexander Park Families,
Last night at a meeting of the Hamilton District Baseball Association member associations unanimously decided to cancel the 2020 house league baseball season. This decision was based on the limited time available to hold the season as well as the social distancing restrictions that remain in place.
The safety of our players, coaches, staff and families must remain our primary concern and we see no way forward that alleviates that concern.
All paid registrations will be moved forward to the 2021 season or refunded in full (minus PayPal fee) depending on your preference.
As disappointing as this decision is, we look forward to taking the field as soon as it is safe to do so and encourage you to include baseball in your recreation activities this summer with your families.
The Executive of Alexander Park Baseball wish you a very happy and healthy summer,
Take Care
Alexander Park
Dear Alexander Park Families,
We are at a point now where we need to make a decision on whether or not it is feasible to pursue going forward with the 2020 baseball season.
The situation as it currently stands with the province and Baseball Ontario is training has now been approved providing social distance measures are followed and a limit of 10 participants. No games are allowed. This may change as we move forward.
The HDBA has been working to create a shortened schedule which could begin as early as the first week in July if baseball receives the approvals from the province to play.
Alexander Park’s registration numbers are quite low this year as could be expected, however if there is enough interest, we could field 3 or 4 teams in a few divisions. Due to the circumstances we feel the HDBA would be flexible regarding over/under age players to allow for the most participation.
Through email, we have asked for your feedback regarding if your family would be interested in participating this season. If you haven't already, please respond to this email. We will spend the next several days deciding how we will proceed.
Thank you for your patience and stay safe
Alexander Park Executive

Greetings Families of Alexander Park,

As you are probably aware, the future of the 2020 season is in jeopardy due to the Covid-19 virus and the benefits of physical distancing to combat it’s spread.

At this time the 2020 baseball season is in a holding pattern until such time as the confidence in the safety of our players, families and volunteers is restored. This includes any activities where groups will congregate meaning all clinics, practices, games and live registrations have been suspended or cancelled until further notice.

Our registration this season is understandably quite lower than previous years.  If you are planning to register and have not to this point, we ask that you register online as we are tracking numbers for the purpose of uniforms in case a baseball season is possible.  If the season is cancelled all monies paid will be refunded minus the PayPal fee.

We will provide updates as they become available to us.

Wishing for good health to you all,

Alexander Park Executive

THE PLACE: On Whitney Avenue and Rifle Range Road.

THE NAME: The park was named in honour of Field Marshal Harold Rupert Leofric George Alexander (1891-1969), who was governor general of Canada from 1946 to 1952.

THE STORY: The land was a rifle range from the late 19th century until the Second World War. According to Hamilton Public Library archives, area residents asked for it to be transformed into a baseball field, which was done. The park was known as West Hamilton Park until being renamed Alexander Park in 1960.

Yogi Says....

Berra’s contributions to MLB history are incalculable, but his legacy might be even better remembered for what he contributed to American language. A sportswriters’ favorite, Berra had countless expressions and turns of phrase that were memorable because most of them didn’t make any sense. (At the same time, every one had some truth to it.)

Berra-isms (colloquial expressions that lack logic) are now countless, and many of them are just attributed to Berra, even if he never actually said them. As he so perfectly put it: “I never said most of the things I said.” Here are 10 of our favorites.

1. When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

2. You can observe a lot by just watching.

3. It ain’t over till it’s over.

4. It’s like déjà vu all over again.

5. No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded.

6. Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical.

7. A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.

8. Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours.

9. We made too many wrong mistakes.

10. Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.
